Quavo has opened up about the circumstances surrounding Migos’ separation, dismissing longstanding rumours that the group’s split was caused by serious conflict between its members.
During a conversation with Yung Miami, the rapper explained that the situation involving Migos was not as dramatic as some reports had suggested. According to Quavo, he and Offset had simply reached a point where they needed time apart to focus on their individual careers.
Quavo also addressed rumours surrounding his relationship with Offset and the rapper’s former relationship with Saweetie, making it clear that the stories surrounding the group’s internal situation did not accurately reflect what was happening between the members.
He explained that the three members of Migos remained brothers despite pursuing separate paths professionally. Rather than viewing their solo careers as the end of the group, Quavo described the period as a time when he and Offset were focused on developing individually.
However, everything changed following the tragic death of Takeoff in November 2022.
Quavo described Takeoff as the glue that held Migos together, emphasizing the particularly close bond they shared because Takeoff was his nephew.
Takeoff’s death deeply affected both Quavo and the wider hip-hop community, bringing an end to a chapter in the career of one of the most influential rap groups to emerge from Atlanta.
Quavo also spoke about his decision not to feature Takeoff on his latest album. Rather than including previously recorded material simply for the sake of having his late group member appear on the project, Quavo said he wants to give Takeoff a more meaningful tribute through a separate solo project dedicated entirely to him.
The rapper’s decision reflects his desire to properly celebrate Takeoff’s legacy and give the late artist a project that focuses specifically on his music and contribution to Migos.
Takeoff, Quavo and Offset formed Migos in Georgia and went on to achieve major success with songs including “Bad and Boujee,” “Stir Fry” and “MotorSport.” Their distinctive trap sound and rapid-fire delivery helped establish them as one of the defining hip-hop groups of their generation.
For Quavo, the story of Migos is therefore not simply about a group that fell apart. His latest comments present it as a story of three family members who pursued individual careers before an unimaginable loss changed their relationship with the group forever.
His plans for a dedicated Takeoff project could provide another opportunity for fans to connect with the late rapper’s artistry while keeping his memory alive through music.
