Ukraine to submit ‘wish list’ of Russia sanctions to Trump

Ukraine will this week present the Trump administration and the US Congress with a list of Russian companies, vessels and individuals it wants targeted with sanctions under a new US law, a senior Ukrainian diplomat has said.

Denys Sienik, chargé d’affaires at Ukraine’s embassy in Washington, said Ukraine’s top priority is several Russian companies producing components for Moscow’s satellite internet project, which is intended to rival Starlink.

The main company developing the network is already under US sanctions, but firms supplying components to the project have not been sanctioned, Sienik said.

He warned that completing the satellite network could give Russia real-time information that could strengthen its ability to attack Ukraine, particularly during the coming winter.

Ukraine also wants access to Starlink services inside Russia to help it identify and target Russian positions, Sienik said.

Kyiv is further seeking tougher sanctions against vessels believed to be part of Russia’s “ghost fleet”, which Moscow allegedly uses to bypass restrictions on its oil exports.

The Trump administration faces an October 18 deadline to determine which Russian entities, if any, will be sanctioned under the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act.

President Donald Trump signed the legislation into law on September 18.

Sienik also said Ukraine wants the US administration and American businesses to condemn Russian attacks on US companies operating in Ukraine.
