A 42-year-old Texas mother has been arrested and accused of fatally shooting both of her sons, aged 21 and 15, in an incident that has left their family facing the devastating loss of two children.
According to a search warrant affidavit, Ellis County deputies responded to an “unknown emergency” call on Big Sky Drive at about 4:13 a.m. on Thursday, October 1.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they reportedly encountered a woman yelling for additional units and telling officers she had a gun in her hand.
The woman was identified as 42-year-old Colleen Nichole Lemmon.
Investigators allege that Lemmon was responsible for shooting both of her sons. The 21-year-old, identified as Christopher, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 15-year-old brother was transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
The affidavit reportedly states that Lemmon told deputies, “I shot both of my kids.”
Lemmon herself was found with non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently taken into custody.
Authorities have charged her with two counts of capital murder, and her bond has reportedly been set at $2.5 million.
As of the latest reports, investigators have not disclosed what may have led to the shootings or provided a clear motive for the alleged attack.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The tragedy has left the boys’ father and other family members grieving the loss of both sons in the same devastating incident.
