Seni Adetu, former chief executive of Guinness Nigeria, is moving further into banking governance following his appointment to the board of JPMorgan Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited.
Adetu brings extensive corporate leadership experience to the proposed bank, having held senior positions across the beverage, consumer goods and financial services industries.
His career includes leadership roles at Guinness Nigeria, Diageo East Africa and Coca-Cola International.
These positions gave him experience in business strategy, managing large organisations and operating across African markets.
His appointment comes as JPMorgan advances plans to establish its merchant banking business in Nigeria.
The bank has received approval-in-principle from the Central Bank of Nigeria, marking an important step towards securing a full operating licence.
Merchant banks provide financial services to businesses and institutional clients, including corporate finance, investment advisory and other specialised banking services.
Adetu’s experience in corporate leadership and board oversight could prove valuable as JPMorgan develops its Nigerian operations.
However, the proposed bank must complete the necessary regulatory process before it can begin full operations.
The appointment also highlights how experienced executives from established multinational companies continue to take on governance roles in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
