The Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded Nollywood actress Doris Ogala at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of her bail application over allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion involving Pastor Chris Okafor.
Justice Akintayo Aluko ordered her remand on Wednesday after she pleaded not guilty to three charges filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The case centres on allegations that Ogala published intimate photographs of the cleric without his consent, circulated electronic messages allegedly known to be false and threatened to release further damaging material about him.
Prosecution counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, told the court that the alleged offences occurred between September 2024 and March 2026.
According to the prosecution, the actress allegedly shared nude and intimate photographs of Okafor on her social media accounts, exposing him to embarrassment, emotional distress and reputational damage.
The prosecution also accused her of publishing videos, recordings and electronic messages allegedly intended to bully, threaten, intimidate and harass the pastor.
Mokolu further alleged that Ogala threatened to continue releasing intimate and menacing material unless Okafor compensated her or bought her a house.
The charges were brought under Sections 24(1)(a), 24(2)(a) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.
Defence Opposes Remand
After Ogala pleaded not guilty, the prosecution asked the court to remand her and fix a date for trial.
Mokolu also told the court that he had received the actress’s bail application on Wednesday and needed time to study it and file a response.
However, defence counsel, N. C. Atulomah, opposed the request, arguing that the court had the discretion to grant bail.
Atulomah urged the judge to release Ogala, stating that she was a governorship candidate of a political party in Abia State. He also assured the court that she would attend subsequent proceedings.
The prosecution opposed the application, maintaining that it was still within the period allowed to respond to the bail request.
In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not presented sufficient material to justify the actress’s immediate release.
The judge ordered an accelerated hearing of the bail application and directed that Ogala remain at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending its determination.
The case was adjourned until October 30, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
Ogala’s remand followed her not-guilty plea. The allegations remain before the court, and the proceedings have not established her guilt.
