FirstBank Plc has commissioned a Digital Experience Centre at Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja. The facility is expected to serve at least 40,000 people within the university community.
The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Alebiosu, announced this during the commissioning in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He said the centre would expand digital banking and improve access to financial services.
Centre Offers 24-Hour Banking Services
The facility allows customers to perform transactions without visiting conventional banking halls. Services include cash deposits, withdrawals, funds transfers and ATM card replacement.
Customers can also request bank statements and update their account information.
Alebiosu said the centre would operate 24 hours daily, including weekends and public holidays.
He added that the bank was targeting younger customers, particularly Generation Z. The initiative is expected to encourage more people to adopt digital banking.
FirstBank Introduces Biometric Security
The centre features fingerprint and facial recognition systems to protect customer transactions.
One-time passwords are also used to verify sensitive account changes. These measures are designed to prevent unauthorised access to customers’ accounts.
Alebiosu said FirstBank planned to extend the initiative to more university campuses. The bank has introduced similar facilities at Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Benin.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, welcomed the development.
He said the facility would improve banking access for students and university staff. He also disclosed that security arrangements had been established to protect the centre.
