COPDEM and DDM host capacity building program in Awka, Anambra State

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), in collaboration with Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), has commenced a two-week intensive capacity-building program in journalism and digital media. The program, which began on November 25, 2024, is being held at DDM Villa, Awka, Anambra State, and has drawn participants from across Nigeria.
The journey of Hon. Bulus Johnson Yakubu, Publicity Secretary of Nasarawa. COPDEM, exemplifies the dedication of attendees to this landmark event. Hon. Yakubu shared his experience traveling over 470 kilometers from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Awka.
The Journey to Excellence
Bulus Y Kankan departed Lafia at 11 AM, traversing several states and cities to reach the venue. The journey took approximately 11 to 13 hours, involving multiple stops and challenges along the way.
Lafia to Abuja (120 km, 3 hours): The initial leg of the journey was smooth, passing through Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga, and Keffi. Upon arrival in Abuja, Yakubu boarded a vehicle to Awka at the Utako motor park.
Abuja to Lokoja (220 km, 5 hours): This segment presented rough terrain and occasional security checks. Yakubu noted the need for significant road rehabilitation along this route.
Lokoja to Onitsha (100 km, 3 hours): The journey became more challenging, with numerous potholes and moderate traffic impeding smooth travel.
Onitsha to Awka (30 km, 55 minutes): The final stretch offered a welcome respite, with smoother roads and lighter traffic leading to the program venue.
A Warm Welcome and Purposeful Training
Upon reaching Awka, Hon Bulus Y Kankan was warmly received by the DDM team and quickly immersed in the program. The training focuses on equipping participants with skills in digital media, journalism, and storytelling.

Hon. Yakubu also highlighted the challenges of traveling across states, particularly the deplorable state of roads and the need for improved infrastructure to facilitate smoother movement. He called on relevant authorities to prioritize road rehabilitation and ensure better connectivity for Nigerians.
