Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu has been named the interim President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a role he will occupy for 27 days to complete Imo State’s tenure, which ends on January 10, 2025.

Diaspora Digital Media gathered that Chukwu’s appointment follows a series of leadership challenges that began with the passing of Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, CON, in 2022.

According to a statement from Dr. Chiedozie Ogbonnaya, Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s spokesperson, Imo State’s initial representation at the helm of the organization was disrupted after the death of Obiozor.

To maintain continuity, Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was chosen by the Imo State Chapter and sworn in on April 30, 2023. Tragically, Iwuanyanwu passed away on July 25, 2024, leaving a vacancy that required urgent attention.

In a bid to ensure Imo State completes its remaining tenure, the Imo Chapter of Ohanaeze, led by Barrister C.J. Ihemedu, nominated Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu.

The motion to adopt Chukwu was moved by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Chairman of the Imo Council of Elders, and seconded by Chief Simon Okeke (Ochendo).

Ilomuanya described Chukwu as a visionary thinker and a distinguished professional with remarkable leadership qualities.

Nze Chukwu’s educational background is impressive, spanning prestigious institutions like Templeton College, Oxford University, and Harvard University’s Institute for International Development.

He also attended the University of Bristol’s School for Advanced Urban Studies (SAUS), the University of Lagos, Ogun State University (CETEP), and Galilee College, Tivon, Israel.

He holds advanced degrees including an M.Sc and MBA, among others.

Professionally, Chukwu has held influential positions such as a director at Inland Bank Plc and Managing Director of Nigeria Merchant Bank (NMB) Plc.

He also chaired the Presidential Committee for the Reorganization of the River Basin Development Authorities and was a delegate at the 2005 National Political Reform Conference.

In addition to his corporate achievements, Chukwu has made significant contributions to society and the Catholic Church, earning him the Knighthood of St. Mulumba (KSM) and Papal Knighthood of Saint Sylvester (KSS).

He was honored with the United Nations International Parliament for Safety and Peace Award in 2002. A Chartered Management Consultant (CMC) and Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), he is also a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

Chukwu’s dedication to regional development is evident in his involvement with initiatives such as the South East Development Council (SEDC), South East Development Initiative (SEDI), and the Cottage Industries Development Initiative (CIDI).

He serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Town Unions and has represented Nigeria on the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Prominent figures across the Southeast welcomed Chukwu’s emergence, including Barr. Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, represented by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, and Rear Admiral Allison Madueke, GCON.

Other dignitaries present at his adoption included Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe, Prof. ABC Nwosu, Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, Chief Chekwas Okorie, and Prof. Chinedu Nebo, among others.

Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, hailed Chukwu’s appointment as a milestone in Igbo history, expressing gratitude for the unity and support shown during challenging times.
