A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father, Musa Mohammed, and writing a promotion examination on his behalf in Abuja and a staff member of the FCT Fire Service.

Media aide to the FCT minister, Lere Olayinka disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said Musa was caught by security operatives drafted to the examination venue at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) premises in Abuja.

“Today, being the third day of the promotion examination being conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission, 33-year-old Monsuru Musa was caught writing examination for his father, Musa Mohammed, who works in the FCT Fire Service,” Olayinka said.

According to him, Musa initially told the security personnel that his father was ill when he was questioned about his presence at the examination.

He said further checks, however, revealed that Musa’s father was also within the premises.

In the video, Musa admitted that his father had directed him to sit for the promotion examination on his behalf.

When asked about his father’s age, Musa said he was between 67 and 68 years old.

However, his father gave a different account, saying he would turn 60 in February 2027.

The father also told the security personnel that he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.

Olayinka said the father admitted that he had sent his son to take the examination on his behalf and apologised for his action.

He said both men made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before they were handed over to the police for further investigation.

The incident occurred during the ongoing promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission for civil servants in the territory.
