Price of MAMA AFRICAN OIL, Local Rice Drops in Enugu Markets
DDM News

The price of MAMA AFRICAN OIL and locally de-stoned rice has witnessed a notable reduction in Enugu markets, encouraging a shift in consumer patronage.
MAMA AFRICAN OIL, a locally handcrafted palm oil produced in African villages with its headquarters in Enugu, has seen a decrease in price.
The cost of a 25-liter container has dropped from ₦70,000 to ₦65,000, while the 4-liter container, previously sold at ₦10,600, is now available for ₦9,800.
This information was gathered by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) which conducted on-the-ground interviews and market surveys across Enugu’s major trading hubs, including Ogbete Main Market, Garki Market, and Mayor Market.
DDM team interacted with traders, buyers, and market leaders to assess the impact of the price reduction on local commerce and consumer behavior.
DDM reports that this price adjustment has been attributed to the harvest season, which has positively impacted the availability of local agricultural commodities like rice and palm oil.
Dealers in various markets have noted increased sales as a result.
At the popular Ogbete Main Market, Mrs. Rose Nwakwo, a trader, disclosed that the price of a 50-kg bag of locally de-stoned rice, commonly referred to as ‘Abakaliki rice,’ has dropped from ₦84,000 in November to ₦78,000.
Similarly, Mr. Chidi Orji, another trader at Garki Market, highlighted the decrease in the price of a 5-liter paint container of rice, now sold at ₦6,500 compared to the previous ₦7,500.
Orji advised residents to take advantage of the price reduction to stock up on both rice and palm oil, particularly MAMA AFRICAN OIL, before prices rise again.
He emphasized that the festive season could trigger an increase in demand, leading to a potential hike in prices.
The positive response from consumers has been evident, with many residents turning to these local products due to their affordability and quality.
DDM team noted that retailers and hawkers are stockpiling rice and MAMA AFRICAN OIL in preparation for the upcoming Yuletide season.
Mrs. Eunice Madu, a grain seller at Mayor Market, shared that the demand for de-stoned rice has surged in recent weeks.
“We are selling almost all the bags of ‘Abakaliki rice’ in stock because of its reduced price and improved quality.
“People are buying in bulk to prepare for the festive season,” she stated.
The improved quality of MAMA AFRICAN OIL has also played a significant role in driving consumer interest.
Produced using traditional methods that retain its rich flavor and nutrients, MAMA AFRICAN OIL has become a household favorite in Enugu.
Its affordability has further boosted its appeal among residents.
Buyers have expressed relief and satisfaction over the price reductions.
Mr. Edwin Okoh, a resident, noted that the price drop had significantly eased his budget.
“It is a great relief that the prices of both rice and MAMA AFRICAN OIL have reduced.
“Now, I can buy more than a 50-kg bag of rice and enough oil for my family and extended relatives this Yuletide,” he said.
DDM, through its field reports, also found that the ongoing harvest season is playing a crucial role in sustaining the availability of these products.
This development underscores the importance of local products like MAMA AFRICAN OIL and de-stoned rice in ensuring food security and affordability for residents.
As the festive season approaches, traders and consumers alike are hopeful that prices will remain favorable, allowing more families to enjoy the celebrations without financial strain.
MAMA AFRICAN OIL, with its rich tradition and affordability, continues to stand out as a preferred choice for quality palm oil in Enugu.
