Manchester United is ramping up efforts to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli during the January transfer window.

The Super Eagles star, currently on a season-long loan to Galatasaray, has become a crucial target for the Premier League club as they look to bolster their attacking options under new manager Ruben Amorim.

United is exploring various strategies to make the transfer financially viable, including the possibility of using player exchanges to offset the cost.

Osimhen, whose current release clause stands at £62 million, is seen as an essential addition to United’s squad, with the club seeking to reduce the amount they need to pay.

United’s recruitment team is reportedly working on a plan to negotiate with Napoli for a deal that would lower the price, demonstrating the club’s intent to land one of Europe’s top striking talents.

The negotiation tactics indicate the club’s recognition of Osimhen’s value while also being mindful of their financial constraints.

In an effort to raise funds for the transfer, Manchester United is considering selling Joshua Zirkzee.

The Dutch striker, who joined the club last summer, has struggled to make a significant impact in the first team, and his potential departure could free up both financial and roster space for Osimhen’s arrival.

By offloading Zirkzee, United hopes to lessen the overall financial burden of the transfer and make the deal more feasible.

However, securing Osimhen’s signature is far from guaranteed, as the player is also attracting significant interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants have entered the race for the 24-year-old, and their involvement could drive up the price, complicating United’s negotiations.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that PSG’s interest in Osimhen only adds pressure to United’s pursuit, as they will have to act quickly and decisively to avoid losing out to their wealthy French rivals.

Despite the intense competition, Osimhen’s impressive form this season, having scored 12 goals in 15 competitive appearances for Galatasaray, continues to boost his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising forwards.

His ability to provide the much-needed firepower to a Manchester United attack that has often struggled to convert chances this season makes him an attractive prospect.

If United can finalize the deal, Osimhen could be the key to lifting the club’s Premier League fortunes and helping them climb the standings.
