Delta State police condemns clash between Air Force and police in Warri

The Delta State Police Command has condemned the altercation between police officers and Nigerian Air Force personnel in Warri.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 13, 2025, at around 3:30 PM in Jeddo, Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, February 14, 2025, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright, addressed the issue.

He spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressing concern over the embarrassing incident.

According to him, police officers attached to the Quick Response Squad (QRS) were conducting a routine patrol when the clash happened.

During their operation, the officers flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number AKD 73 FL.

On sighting the police, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and attempted to flee the scene.

The police operatives immediately pursued them and successfully arrested one of the suspects.

The arrested suspect was identified as 25-year-old Ibohama Precious.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the discovery of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Canadian loud, and other hard drugs.

Following the arrest, the police officers proceeded to transport the suspect to the police station for further investigation.

At approximately 3:45 PM, they encountered an Air Force checkpoint in Jeddo, where the situation escalated.

Air Force personnel at the checkpoint stopped the police vehicle and demanded the immediate release of the suspect.

The police officers refused to comply, insisting that proper legal procedures must be followed.

A heated argument ensued between the two security agencies at around 4:00 PM.

The situation quickly degenerated into a physical altercation, with both police and Air Force personnel exchanging blows.

Eyewitnesses who witnessed the clash recorded the incident and shared videos online.

The viral footage showed security operatives engaging in a public brawl, causing panic in the area.

Residents expressed concerns over the display of indiscipline by officers responsible for maintaining law and order.

Many questioned the level of cooperation between security agencies in the state.

Reacting to the incident, Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda assured the public that efforts were being made to address the issue.
