Lady arrested for defrauding donors on Facebook over fake surgery

A Nigerian woman identified as Ogechi Okechukwu has been arrested for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting individuals by pretending to need urgent surgery.

Okechukwu reportedly took to Facebook to share a fabricated story about her medical condition, appealing for financial assistance from well-meaning donors.

Her plea caught the attention of Uwaoma Susan Joseph, a kind-hearted influencer who helped rally support for Okechukwu’s cause.

Through Joseph’s efforts, close to N800,000 was raised from generous donors who believed they were contributing to a life-saving surgery.

However, investigations later revealed that Okechukwu’s story was entirely false.

Authorities uncovered evidence that she had conspired with a doctor at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa to orchestrate the scam.

Chat logs and other incriminating conversations were found on Okechukwu’s phone, confirming her involvement in the fraudulent scheme.

Okechukwu is currently in detention as law enforcement agencies continue their investigation.
