Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, has warned that Zimbabwe will challenge Nigeria when both teams meet in Uyo on Tuesday.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) revealed that the Super Eagles will host Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Nigeria needs a win to improve their standing in Group C, where they currently sit in fourth place.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, remains at the bottom of the group with slim hopes of qualification.

Rohr made his comments after Zimbabwe’s 2-2 draw with Benin, a match that showcased their resilience and determination.

Meanwhile, Benin Republic secured a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali, strengthening their position in the group.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Rohr analyzed Zimbabwe’s performance and acknowledged their ability to compete.

“A 2-2 draw is okay. In the first half, we were the better team, but Zimbabwe dominated the second half,” he said.

The coach admitted that despite the draw, Zimbabwe had already lost their realistic chance of qualifying for the World Cup.

However, he praised their resilience and expects them to put up a strong fight against Nigeria in their upcoming match.

“They are fighters, and I know their coach and staff will push them to challenge Nigeria in Uyo,” Rohr added.

He also predicted that Zimbabwe would maintain the same level of determination in their matches against Rwanda and Lesotho.

Nigeria has struggled in recent matches and must secure maximum points to stay in contention for World Cup qualification.

The Super Eagles’ inconsistent form has raised concerns among fans and football analysts.

A win in Uyo would provide much-needed momentum for Nigeria as they continue their qualification campaign.

Zimbabwe, despite being at the bottom, will be motivated to cause an upset against one of Africa’s football giants.

The pressure is on Nigeria to prove their quality and avoid a disappointing result at home.
