Delta student receives query for allegedly refusing to worship Remi Tinubu

The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences has issued a query to a student, Osato Edobor, over a viral social media video.

Edobor allegedly recorded and posted an “unauthorised” video during the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Delta State.

A copy of the disciplinary letter surfaced online after journalist Oseni Rufai posted it on X on Friday.

The letter, signed by Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne and dated March 27, 2025, accused Edobor of misconduct.

She was accused of making a “malicious act” by recording herself singing and posting an “unofficial response” at the event.

The incident occurred at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba during the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme.

At the event, 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives across the South-South geopolitical zone.

“This is a punishable offence as enshrined in the Student Handbook, disciplinary actions No. 8, Page 21,” the letter stated.

The school directed Edobor to submit a written defence in triplicate within 24 hours to avoid disciplinary action.

The video that led to the query has gone viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions across the country.

In the footage, student nurses at the event appeared to reject the First Lady as their “mother.”

The controversy began when the Master of Ceremony introduced Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother.”

The students, however, responded in unison, saying, “Na your mama be this,” meaning “This is your mother.”

The reaction has fueled discussions on growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians, especially the youth.

Many link the students’ response to frustration over economic hardship, inflation, and rising insecurity in the country.

Under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Nigerians have been battling food scarcity and high living costs.

Despite the controversy, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended the First Lady for her contributions to the health sector.

He stated that Nigeria is witnessing improvements under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) programme.

The First Lady also met with traditional rulers at the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers in Delta State.

Among those present was the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo, and other dignitaries.

The video incident remains a trending topic, with many debating the students’ reaction and its implications.
