Chief of Defence Staff Urges Nigerian Youths to Shun “Japa” Trend and Fight for the Nation

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, delivered a message to Nigerian youths, discouraging the prevalent trend of migrating abroad, known as “Japa.” During a visit to the Defence Headquarters Hospital in Abuja to commemorate Christmas and his birthday, General Musa emphasized the importance of staying in the country and actively participating in addressing challenges.

Musa dismissed the notion of seeking solutions by leaving the country, stating, “We must stay and fight whatever challenge is. Those countries they are running to stood back and fought and got to where they are. If they had run away, they would not have achieved that for them (Nigerians) to go and meet them.”

Encouraging a sense of patriotism, the Chief of Defence Staff called on Nigerians to take responsibility for the issues affecting the nation. He asserted that overcoming insecurity requires a collective effort, emphasizing that it is not solely the responsibility of the Armed Forces and security agencies.

Musa stressed the need for public cooperation, saying, “We cannot do it alone. We need the support of everyone. When you see something, say something, report as quickly as possible so that measures can be put in place adequately.”

In his plea for national unity, he reiterated, “Nigeria is our own. If Nigeria succeeds, we all succeed, if Nigeria fails we all fail, and we don’t want Nigeria to fail. So I call on all Nigerians to give us all the support.” The Chief of Defence Staff emphasized the significance of collective support in addressing challenges and securing the nation’s future.
