Thai’s Prime Minister: Thailand is back to normalcy after earthquake

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra the country “has returned to normalcy” after a deadly quake rattled the capital.

Shinawatra said only one building collapsed in Bangkok.

He added that the building was under construction and that no other buildings in the capital suffered a similar impact.

“We have tasked the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning to investigate as to what happened [to the collapsed building] and what would be the future standards,” said the PM.

At least 10 people in Thailand have been killed as a result of the quake.

In neighboring Myanmar, the death toll currently stands at more than 1,000 with aid groups still struggling to reach those who need help.

Operations at six airports including those in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Chiang Rai and Phuket have returned to normal.

It is also reported that the airports have undergone safety inspections following Friday’s earthquake that hit the Thai capital.

In a statement on Saturday, it confirmed the structural integrity of buildings at those airports and found aviation infrastructure met safety standards.

Thailand is reeling from the tremors of a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck its neighbouring Myanmar on Friday (March 28).

The quake rocked the Thai capital Bangkok and other parts of the country.

Thailand is a popular tourist spot attracting visitors from around the world.

As the country deals with the aftermath of the deadly earthquake, many asked if it was safe to travel there.

The Earthquake on Friday

The strong quake on Friday toppled a 33-storey skyscraper under construction in Bangkok.

According to reports, the area that held the skyscraperwhich has reportedly been declared a “disaster area” by city authorities.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej said at least 10 people died.

He also disclosed that 16 were injured and 101 were missing at three construction sites in the city, as per a Bangkok Post report.

Rescue operations are ongoing currently. However shortage of required heavy machinery are said to be the bane of the operation.
