The political landscape of Ondo State undergoes a significant change as Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa arrives at the Governor’s Office in Akure for his swearing-in ceremony. This transition follows the tragic death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday at the age of 67.

As this report is filed, members of the state House of Assembly and key stakeholders have assembled at the Cocoa Conference Hall in anticipation of the official swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier indications pointed to Aiyedatiwa’s inauguration on Wednesday, as he made his way from Igbokoda after the Christmas and New Year break, as reported by Sahara Reporters.

A top government source stated, “Ondo State will be swearing in Lucky Aiyedatiwa as governor in Akure today. The swearing-in is slated to be held at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure.”

Governor Akeredolu’s passing, attributed to his battle with cancer, has prompted reactions and condolences from various quarters. Having returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany, he recently went on another leave, handing over power to Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa.

During his earlier return in September, Governor Akeredolu faced public criticism for governing the state from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Now, the state braces for a new chapter under the leadership of Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
