Bees kills farmer, injures two in Osun

A swarm of bees has killed a farmer and injured two others at Olobe Farm, Igbajo, Osun State, according to media report.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 18, 2025.

The victim, Abideen Olabiyi, hailed from Alalade Compound, Ada, in Osun State.

He was working on the farm with Solomon Kingsley and Chief Olusegun Alalade when the bees attacked.

Police from the Otan-Aiyegbaju Division confirmed the incident in an official report.

The report revealed that the three men were attacked suddenly and without warning.

A relative, Babasanjo Alalade, reported the matter to the police at about 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

He said the three men had gone to the farm when the bees swarmed and attacked.

Olabiyi reportedly died on the spot as the swarm overwhelmed him.

Kingsley and Alalade managed to escape but sustained serious injuries.

Detectives visited the scene, took photographs, and examined the area.

They evacuated the deceased’s body to Healthy Paradise Mortuary in Ikirun for autopsy.

The two survivors are receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ada.

Medical sources said their condition remains critical but stable.

Locals expressed shock over the incident, describing it as tragic and unusual.

Community members said bees have never attacked farmers in that area before.

An elder in Ada, Chief Rauf Adetayo, urged the state government to investigate the cause.

He also called for public awareness on how to respond to bee attacks.

Meanwhile, police promised to continue monitoring the survivors’ condition.

They advised farmers to remain cautious while working in rural areas.

A senior officer at Otan-Aiyegbaju Police Division confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

He said there was no sign of foul play at the scene.

The state government has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
