Eric Dier’s Bayern exit confirmed

Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, confirmed at a press conference that Eric Dier will leave the club at the end of the season after his contract expires.

Dier had expressed his desire not to extend his contract, and the club has respected his decision.

“We had discussions with Eric about a new contract. He told us that he doesn’t want to extend and will leave us.

“He’s a great guy. We had a great time together. Hopefully, he crowns his time with us with his first title,” Freund said.

Dier, 31, joined Bayern in January 2024 on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and the move became permanent the following summer.

He has played 45 times for Bayern, scoring two goals.

Dier is on the verge of winning his first major trophy with Bayern, potentially this weekend if the team wins the Bundesliga.

In a related news, club veteran and world cup winner Thomas Mueller is on the cusp of winning his 13th league title as his departure from the club after 25 seasons draws near.

Bayern will clinch the title if they beat RB Leipzig on Saturday, or if Bayer Leverkusen fails to beat Freiburg on Sunday.

Mueller, who joined Bayern at just 10 years old, has amassed an impressive 32 trophies with the club, including two Champions Leagues.

Despite his impending departure, Mueller remains focused on securing another title. “It sounds good, doesn’t it?” he said in an interview. “There’s always a lot of work and you have to perform over a long period.”

As Mueller’s time at Bayern comes to an end, he has been celebrated by fans, but he has been quick to remind everyone that he is not on a farewell tour and that there is still a title at stake.

Meanwhile, Bochum faces relegation if they lose to Heidenheim on Friday, with the team’s struggles coming against mid-table sides and fellow relegation battlers.
