Tinubu meets service chiefs amid rising insecurity, set to attend pope’s inauguration in Rome

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with top security officials at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting is taking place as parts of the country experience a resurgence of insecurity and armed violence, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

In attendance are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.

Also present are the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is also participating in the high-level security meeting.

Although the agenda remains undisclosed, the meeting likely addresses recent security challenges confronting the nation.

Security agencies have been battling insurgents, bandits, and kidnappers, especially in the North and Middle Belt regions.

Nigerians have expressed concern over the rising attacks on communities and travelers across several states.

This security meeting comes ahead of President Tinubu’s planned visit to Rome, Italy, scheduled for the weekend.

He is expected to attend the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.

According to Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu received a formal invitation from the Vatican.

The mass will mark the official beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate as the 267th Bishop of Rome.

The Vatican emphasized the importance of President Tinubu’s presence at this significant religious occasion.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin delivered the invitation, highlighting its symbolic value during a time of global tension.

The Vatican noted that Tinubu’s attendance demonstrates support for peace, unity, and global cooperation.

The President will travel with a high-level delegation of government officials and leading Catholic clergy.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, will be part of the delegation.

Also attending are Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama, and Archbishop Alfred Martins.

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Diocese will also accompany the president to Rome.

This visit marks President Tinubu’s first formal engagement with the Vatican since assuming office.

It reflects Nigeria’s commitment to interfaith dialogue and international diplomacy.

At home, citizens hope the ongoing security meeting will result in practical solutions to national security issues.

The government is expected to strengthen its response and enhance protection of lives and property.

President Tinubu’s actions demonstrate a balance between addressing domestic issues and engaging globally.
