In a bold and strategic move, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched global registration platforms for Nigerians living abroad.

This groundbreaking development was made public on Sunday, May 18, 2025, following a high-level meeting of the party’s Directorate of Mobilisation and Civil Societies Engagement.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the ADC has now established operational structures in several countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, France, South Africa, and other key nations.

According to the directorate, this initiative is aimed at harnessing the power and resources of Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute meaningfully to the political transformation of their homeland.

The party also used the opportunity to formally welcome members of the Obidient Movement into the ADC fold.

Party officials confirmed that the ADC constitution has been amended to ensure that all members, both old and new, are treated with equality and dignity.

This amendment, the directorate noted, removes any form of discrimination or structural barrier that previously limited wide-scale participation.

The strategic decision to open the party globally and embrace progressive movements was taken during a closed-door meeting held on May 17, 2025.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Director General of the ADC Directorate of Mobilisation and Civil Societies Engagement, Mr. Pam Rwang Junior, described the development as a “turning point in Nigeria’s democratic journey.”

Mr. Pam urged patriotic Nigerians at home and abroad to seize the moment and join the ADC to build what he called “the new Nigeria that is indeed Possible.”

He said the ADC stands as a true alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he described as having entrenched “one-party tendencies and misrule.”

According to him, the ADC’s open-door policy and democratic ethos will attract a new generation of leaders committed to transparency, justice, and nation-building.

Mr. Pam explained that the lack of interest in politics by many Nigerians stemmed from years of disenchantment caused by opaque party systems.

He accused mainstream parties of failing to operate by the rule of law, noting that many Nigerians see them as closed oligarchies.

He revealed that the ADC aims to surpass its projected membership target of 37.5 million citizens across the federation and abroad.

To achieve this, the Directorate has adopted innovative community-based strategies to grow party membership organically.

Mr. Pam also praised Nigerians who have started offering their personal properties, shops, and spaces to serve as ADC polling units and meeting centers at the ward level.

He encouraged more civic-minded individuals to emulate this spirit of volunteerism and take ownership of the party’s grassroots mobilisation drive.

“The mission of rescuing Nigeria is the collective responsibility of every Nigerian,” he declared.

The director said the ADC is the most inclusive political platform in Nigeria today and remains the party of the people.

He said the party is committed to promoting internal democracy, and it provides an avenue for ordinary Nigerians to contest for political offices without financial exploitation or political godfathers.

Observers say the decision to absorb the Obidient Movement is likely to re-energize the ADC’s base and open new political possibilities.

The Obidient Movement, known for its youth-driven push for good governance, transparency, and accountability, rose to prominence during the 2023 elections.

While initially associated with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, many members of the Obidient Movement have since become disillusioned with the party’s direction.

By embracing the Obidients, the ADC signals its readiness to provide a credible and energetic platform for Nigeria’s reformist youth.

Political analysts believe this move could transform ADC from a mid-tier party into a national political force.

Mr. Pam noted that with widespread political dissatisfaction across Nigeria, the time is ripe for a generational shift in political leadership.

He challenged professionals, artisans, students, women, and young people to take advantage of the ADC’s openness to contest and win elections.

The ADC, which was founded in 2005, has positioned itself as a credible third force in Nigeria’s political terrain.

Though it has not held the presidency or governorship, it has fielded candidates in several elections and built an active grassroots base.

The recent restructuring, which includes diaspora expansion and internal constitutional reforms, marks a bold departure from the party’s previous strategy.

Under Mr. Pam’s leadership, the Mobilisation Directorate is now actively targeting Nigerians living in Europe, North America, Asia, and Southern Africa.

ADC Diaspora Chapters are tasked with engaging local Nigerian communities abroad and providing political education and mobilisation opportunities.

Each chapter will serve as a hub for registration, policy discussions, digital training, and candidate grooming.

ADC USA and ADC UK are expected to launch their first digital town hall meetings before the end of May 2025.

Party officials say that diaspora chapters will also play an important role in raising funds, promoting civic awareness, and influencing policy debates.

The Directorate believes that political participation should not end at Nigeria’s borders and insists that diaspora Nigerians are key stakeholders in the nation’s democratic revival.

According to a recent World Bank report, over 1.7 million Nigerians live in the diaspora, with remittances reaching over $20 billion annually.

This makes the diaspora community not only financially powerful but also politically significant.

Mr. Pam affirmed that ADC’s diaspora strategy will align global expertise with local activism to form a truly modern party.

He said the ADC is already leveraging technology to eliminate bottlenecks in membership registration and internal communications.

The party is also working with civil society groups, student unions, religious leaders, and community-based organisations to ensure that mobilisation penetrates every ward.

Mr. Pam accused the ruling APC of stifling Nigeria’s democratic evolution and causing widespread disenchantment.

He said the misrule of the APC has pushed Nigerians to the edge, and only bold political reinvention can restore national hope.

He emphasized that Nigeria cannot be rescued by recycling the same political elite that have governed for the last two decades.

The ADC, he said, offers a clean slate for Nigerians to rewrite the nation’s political story with integrity and people-centered policies.

As registration across the diaspora picks up, the party is also preparing for a major national convention set for the third quarter of 2025.

At the convention, diaspora delegates are expected to be formally integrated into the party structure with voting rights and leadership positions.

The ADC has assured Nigerians that it will remain transparent, accountable, and people-focused in all its activities.

With this new wave of reforms and outreach, the African Democratic Congress may have ignited a political movement that could reshape the 2027 elections.

As the nation continues to struggle with economic hardship, insecurity, and leadership failure, more citizens are looking for a party they can trust.

The ADC appears determined to fill that vacuum, reaching out not just to the disillusioned, but to the determined.

It is still too early to predict the full political implications of this shift.

But one thing is clear: a new chapter is being written, and millions of Nigerians, at home and abroad, are now invited to take part in it.
