Los Blancos are 15 times winners of the UEFA Champions League

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has released its updated rankings of European football leagues.

The English Premier League (EPL) has been ranked as the top football league in Europe by UEFA, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

The rankings were published on UEFA’s official website on May 20, 2025.

They are based on performances of clubs in European competitions over the past five seasons.

UEFA evaluates teams in the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League for these rankings.

The rankings determine how many clubs from each country qualify for UEFA tournaments.

EPL clubs performed consistently well in UEFA competitions, securing the top spot.

Italy’s Serie A is ranked second, while Spain’s LaLiga is in third place.

Germany’s Bundesliga and France’s Ligue 1 round out the top five leagues.

Diaspora Digital Media DDM reports that UEFA uses these rankings for determining qualification slots.

This means stronger leagues are given more representation in European competitions.

The Netherlands secured sixth place, followed by Portugal and Belgium in seventh and eighth positions.

Czechia made the top ten with a strong performance, placing ninth.

Turkey completed the top ten, showing consistent club efforts in recent tournaments.

Norway ranked eleventh, with Greece and Austria following in twelfth and thirteenth respectively.

Scotland, Poland, Denmark, and Switzerland occupy the next four positions.

Israel, Cyprus, and Sweden complete the list of Europe’s top twenty leagues.

Russia was notably absent from active participation due to ongoing UEFA suspension.

Russian teams have not taken part in the 2024/25 UEFA competitions.

UEFA assigned Russia its lowest coefficient points from the last five seasons.

This greatly reduced their standing in the current league rankings.

The Premier League’s dominance is credited to clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool.

Italian and Spanish clubs have also contributed to their leagues’ high rankings.

Serie A clubs such as Inter Milan have shown strong performances in Europe.

LaLiga continues to benefit from consistent runs by Real Madrid and Barcelona.

UEFA’s ranking system highlights changes in European football’s competitive landscape.

Traditional giants remain strong, but mid-tier leagues are gaining ground.

Smaller leagues are becoming more competitive and challenging top teams in Europe.

Clubs from countries like Czechia and Norway have improved significantly.

These rankings reflect both performance and potential for UEFA qualification spots.

As the current season progresses, rankings may shift based on club results.

Teams aim to gain more coefficient points by progressing further in tournaments.

The Premier League remains Europe’s football benchmark, with other leagues eager to catch up.
