As the excitement ramps up on Day 3 of the National Sports Festival, Bayelsa State has taken the lead in the medals standings, clinching a total of 6 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals.

They’re closely followed by Oyo State, which has secured 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, bringing their total to six medals overall.

Lagos State ranks third after Tuesday’s competitions, boasting 3 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Cross River is in fourth position with 3 gold medals, while Rivers State rounds out the top five with 2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medals.

The Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) are proving their mettle, occupying sixth place with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals—showing that they’re definitely punching above their weight in this year’s festival.

Distant behind is the defending champion and fan-favorite, Delta State, which has so far garnered 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, placing them seventh.

So far, a total of 71 medals have been awarded across all sports—comprising 23 gold, 23 silver, and 25 bronze—highlighting the intense competition and growing momentum at the festival.

The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has urged journalists covering the event to rely on the official medal standings provided by the NSC rather than unverified or self-generated tables circulating online.

Activities continue on Wednesday at various venues, promising more thrilling contests and medal battles to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.
