I Won’t Give You Money To Marry more Wives Like Kano, Bauchi Governor Fumes At Abducted kids’ Parents

Sen Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has comedown hard on parents who make their children vulnerable to abduction saying that he won’t be in the habit of indulging guardians who leave their wards to almajiri system like it was done in Kano, he said.

Bauchi, like most states in the north records the highest number of out of schools children, currently put at about 20 million in Nigeria, largely on account of what is largely known as almajiri system.

But the governor, earlier in the week while receiving seven children reportedly abducted with the express purpose of trafficking them, said at the state executive chambers in the state that he put the blame of the children’s ordeal squarely at the feet of the parents.

” I heard that the Kano State Government gave you incentives, I will not do that because you don’t deserve any such, you did not not play your parental roles well, that was the reason the children were abducted and trafficked.

“I am not happy with you. You don’t deserve anything other than reprimand.

“This inaccessible parents must take responsibility; you must be able to do that in a manner that is purely good and acceptable in the society.

“If parents don’t take care of their children, nobody will do so for you.

When we as parents do not take responsibility, we are exposing our children to criminals in the society who are waiting for such opportunities to prey on the innocent children”

Unlike Bauchi which is under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Kano State is currently under banner of New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP.

Kano state has state sponsorship marriage programs which, according to the government is part of its social welfare service.

But Bauch governor strikes radically different chord entirely, insisting that state apparatus must be deployed to make parents more responsible and responsive to their children and wards.

As a result, he warned the parents of the rescued kids that they will be constantly under watch.

“I will direct all the Mai Unguwa of where you are living to put eyes on you and report to me about you. Though you told me that you reported the incidents but sometimes due to poverty, you may not know how to properly report such.

“The State Committee on Gender Based Violence was mandated to ensure judicious utilization of money. Everything possible must be done to ensure that the money did not get to the parents, especially the fathers so that they will not use it to marry more wives and give birth to children they cannot take care of,” the governor fumed.

Sen Mohammed however declared a N1 million each trust account has been opened for the affected children.
