In a renewed call to action, the leadership of the COPDEM Student Network has issued a comprehensive statement highlighting its mission, objectives, and upcoming programs aimed at empowering Nigerian students to become proactive agents of democratic development and national progress.

The statement, released by the National President of the organization, Mr. Adamu Yusuf Gwary, popularly known as Khay’s Adams, emphasized the group’s unwavering commitment to equipping Nigerian students with political, intellectual, financial, and leadership tools necessary for rebuilding Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), a key partner in COPDEM’s campaigns, is expected to play a major role in the upcoming programs.

The announcement reflects a growing awareness among Nigerian youth of the urgent need to take active roles in shaping the nation’s future.

COPDEM, which stands for the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy, has increasingly become a focal point for student activism and democratic engagement.

The group continues to build momentum as it inspires thousands of Nigerian students to see themselves as stakeholders in the country’s development.

COPDEM is a political action group established with the aim of addressing the systemic challenges threatening Nigeria’s democracy.

It deploys strategic and lawful methods to hold leaders accountable and foster political literacy among the populace.

Founded on democratic ideals, COPDEM promotes voter education, transparency, ethical governance, and a people-driven leadership structure.

Unlike many politically affiliated groups, COPDEM remains non-partisan.

It supports competent and eligible candidates based on merit and public service record rather than political affiliations.

The group also engages in community development programs as a practical means of connecting democratic ideals with the realities faced by everyday Nigerians.

As part of its efforts to expand its reach, COPDEM launched the COPDEM Student Network to serve as its youth-focused arm.

This network aims to empower students across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, helping them to become informed leaders, active citizens, and changemakers.

According to Mr. Gwary, the student network was created to build unity across ethnic and regional divides, especially between Northern and Southern students.

The COPDEM Student Network seeks to foster genuine relationships among students through shared goals and collaborative action.

The network is designed to train students intellectually, morally, and politically, thus enabling them to develop leadership qualities that are deeply rooted in civic responsibility.

“Our network is here to give, not to take,” Mr. Gwary said.

“We are committed to building, not destroying.”

“We are raising the leaders of today, not just tomorrow.”

These statements reflect the network’s philosophy of proactive participation in democracy, rather than passive observation.

Membership in the COPDEM Student Network brings with it several benefits designed to enhance the academic and life journeys of Nigerian students.

Some of the key benefits include access to financial grants and scholarships that ease the burden of tuition and educational expenses.

Students are also offered high-tech skills acquisition programs that prepare them for a competitive global workforce.

The network provides political mentorship and guidance that exposes members to the inner workings of democratic governance.

Leadership training workshops are held regularly to help students cultivate strategic thinking, ethical decision-making, and teamwork.

One of the major advantages of being a COPDEM student member is access to national and international networking opportunities.

Through its broad reach and connections, COPDEM helps students engage with leaders, institutions, and youth-focused bodies across the globe.

The group also offers financial intelligence programs that teach budgeting, saving, and investment practices, vital life skills that are often overlooked in formal education.

The COPDEM Student Network believes that students are not merely future leaders.

They are leaders of today, with a vital role to play in shaping national discourse and development.

In a significant move to actualize its mission, COPDEM has partnered with Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) to introduce a high-tech skills acquisition program for Nigerian students.

The pilot phase of this program is set to launch at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State.

From there, the program will expand to institutions nationwide.

The training curriculum includes courses in cybersecurity, an essential skill in today’s digitally connected world.

Students will also learn digital marketing, enabling them to build and promote brands and ideas online.

Other modules include graphic design and web development, which are both in high demand globally.

The program will also teach content creation and video editing, equipping students to thrive in the creative economy.

This initiative reflects COPDEM’s understanding of the changing economic landscape and the need to prepare students for non-traditional career paths.

In addition to the skills training, the organization has announced that the COPDEM 2025 Scholarship Program will be unveiled soon.

This scholarship is designed to support high-achieving but financially disadvantaged students.

Details of the application process will be announced through COPDEM’s official media channels.

The leadership has urged students to stay informed by checking their online platforms regularly.

Furthermore, the organization revealed that it will commence monthly programs and competitions from May 2025.

These events will be interactive, informative, and rewarding, with a variety of prizes available for participants.

They are also intended to boost student morale and increase participation in democratic and civic activities.

These monthly engagements are part of COPDEM’s broader strategy to make civic participation more attractive to Nigerian youth.

Registration for the COPDEM Student Network is currently free.

Most of the organization’s activities take place online, ensuring ease of access and wider participation.

Students interested in joining are encouraged to visit www.copdem.org and complete the registration process.

Upon registration, each member receives a unique COPDEM Identification Number, which qualifies them for participation in all programs and benefits.

Active participation in COPDEM programs is not only encouraged but required for continuous engagement and development.

According to Mr. Gwary, being present and involved is the first step toward making meaningful change.

The organization also provides a platform for dialogue and problem-solving among students from diverse backgrounds.

Through seminars, webinars, and workshops, COPDEM encourages critical thinking, innovation, and solidarity.

The president used the press release to reiterate the organization’s belief that democracy is for all citizens, not just the political elite.

“Politics is a game for everyone,” he said.

“Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

“Every Nigerian has a role to play in making this country great.”

He added that with teamwork, discipline, and patriotic unity, a new Nigeria is not just a dream, it is a possibility within reach.

COPDEM envisions a country where every young person has a voice, every vote counts, and every citizen upholds democratic values.

The organization remains dedicated to producing student leaders who will champion transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The group’s belief in action over apathy and participation over passivity sets it apart in Nigeria’s crowded civic space.

As the country grapples with political disillusionment and social unrest, organizations like COPDEM offer hope and direction.

The COPDEM Student Network continues to grow rapidly, attracting members from all six geopolitical zones.

Its inclusive structure and emphasis on mutual respect ensure that no student feels left behind.

Through its strategic programs and empowering initiatives, the network is gradually reshaping the mindset of Nigerian students.

What began as a political action group has now become a youth movement for national transformation.

The message from COPDEM is clear: democracy will thrive when citizens, especially students, choose to get involved.

Long Live COPDEM.

Long Live Nigerian Democracy.

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Signed:

Adamu Yusuf Gwary (Khay’s Adams)
