PDP slams APC over ‘reckless borrowing’, demands recovery of stolen N30 trillion
DDM News

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) government over its continued reckless borrowing.
The PDP stated that the borrowing is unproductive and not connected to meaningful development projects that benefit ordinary Nigerians, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.
This statement was made during the Eid el-Kabir celebration, highlighting the worsening economic hardship faced by citizens nationwide.
The party blamed the economic crisis on corruption and financial mismanagement by the ruling APC government.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement expressing deep concern over the country’s deteriorating economy.
He alleged that more than N30 trillion has been looted through fraudulent oil deals and diversion of public funds.
According to him, these funds were stolen by influential APC officials in various government agencies and institutions.
The PDP demanded that the government stop borrowing and prioritise recovering the stolen N30 trillion immediately.
It insisted that recovered funds should be used to develop infrastructure and improve the country’s productive sectors.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports the PDP also suggested channelling the money into strengthening national security operations across Nigeria.
The party warned that borrowing without clear, beneficial outcomes would worsen Nigeria’s debt burden and economic stress.
It said Nigerians are already suffering from inflation, unemployment, and unaffordable basic services due to current policies.
The PDP called on the federal government to use Eid as a moment for reflection and redirection.
It urged the government to review and eliminate policies that hurt ordinary citizens, such as fuel and electricity hikes.
The party emphasised the need to cut levies and tariffs on essential goods and public services.
The PDP also addressed President Bola Tinubu directly, asking him to prioritise citizens’ welfare over the next two years.
It recommended adopting responsible budgeting practices and demonstrating a commitment to transparency and selfless leadership.
According to the PDP, this is necessary to restore public trust and reverse the nation’s economic decline.
The opposition party described the APC’s governance style as self-serving and damaging to Nigeria’s long-term stability.
It urged a change towards people-focused leadership guided by accountability and national interest.
With this statement, the PDP continues to position itself as a strong voice against APC’s economic policies.
The party’s remarks add to growing public concern about rising prices, poor services, and economic mismanagement in Nigeria.
