World War III (WWIII) is looming ever closer as Russian President Vladimir Putin called for emergency security council meeting after Ukraine reportedly bombed strategic bombers with nuclear capabilities.
According to reports from Russian sources, Ukrainians bombed strategic bombers that were part of the Nuclear Triad of the Russian Federation.
A nuclear triad is a military strategy involving a three-pronged nuclear force structure:
- Land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs),
- Submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and,
- Strategic bombers with nuclear capabilities.

ABC News report states:
“The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a large-scale operation targeting four Russian military airfields on Sunday, an SBU source confirmed to ABC News, claiming to have hit more than 40 military aircraft “that bomb Ukrainian cities every night.”
“The governors of the Russian regions of Irkutsk and Murmansk confirmed drone attacks in their respective regions.
“Videos shared with ABC News by the SBU showed drones attacking Olenya airbase in Murmansk and Belaya airfield in Irkutsk.
“Both are home to Russian strategic bomber aircraft, including nuclear-capable bombers.
“The governor of Irkutsk noted that the drones were launched from the back of a truck in the area.
“The governor posted an accompanying video of drones flying overhead and huge columns of smoke rising nearby.”
On its part, Ukraine said it conducted a large-scale operation targeting four Russian military airfields on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Security source confirms attack
A Ukrainian security source confirmed the attack to ABC News.
It claimed to have hit more than 40 military aircraft “that bomb Ukrainian cities every night.”
Confirming the attack, the Russian Ministry of Defense wrote on its Telegram channel in Russian but translated in English:
“Today, the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist attack using FPV drones against airfields in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan and Amur regions.
“At military airfields in the Ivanovo, Ryazan and Amur regions, all terrorist attacks were repelled.
“In the Murmansk and Irkutsk regions, as a result of the launch of FPV drones from the territory located in the immediate vicinity of the airfields, several units of aviation equipment caught fire.
“The fires were extinguished. There are no casualties among military personnel and civilian personnel.
“Some participants in the terrorist attacks were detained.”
It stated further:
“From 8.20 to 19.00 Moscow time, 33 Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed and intercepted by air defense systems on duty:
▪️ 27 UAVs – over the territory of the Kursk region,
▪️ four UAVs – over the territory of the Belgorod region,
▪️ two UAVs – over the territory of the Lipetsk region.
Russia conducts special military operation
In another official statement on the progress of the special military operation as of June 1, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Defense, stated its summary of achievements viz:
“The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to conduct a special military operation.
“Units of the North group of troops liberated the village of Oleksiivka in the Sumy region as a result of decisive actions.
“Concentrations of manpower and equipment of three mechanized, three airborne assault, jaeger brigades, an assault regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and two territorial defense brigades were defeated in the areas of the settlements of Andriivka, Pavlivka, Mohrytsya, Sadky, Ryzhivka, Korchakivka, Nova Sich, Pysarivka, Khrapovshchyna and Iskryskivshchyna of the Sumy region.
“The losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to over 200 servicemen, an armored personnel carrier, six cars, five field artillery guns and an electronic warfare station.
“Units of the group of forces “West” took more advantageous lines and positions.
“They defeated the formations of two mechanized, assault, airmobile brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a territorial defense brigade in the areas of the settlements of Kupyansk, Dibrova, Glushchenkovo of the Kharkiv region, Volchiy Yar, Krasny Liman and Torskoye of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine lost up to 210 servicemen, three armored combat vehicles, nine vehicles and five artillery pieces, including a 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery mount of Polish production.
“The Kvertus electronic warfare station and three ammunition depots were destroyed.
“Units of the “Southern” group of forces improved the situation along the front line.
“They defeated the manpower and equipment of four mechanized, assault, airmobile brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the territorial defense brigade in the areas of the settlements of Nelipovka, Seversk, Serebryanka, Kleban-Byk, Konstantinovka, Ivanopolye and Dyleevka of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“The enemy lost up to 280 troops, three vehicles, three artillery pieces, as well as an M113 armored personnel carrier and a US-made HMMWV armored combat vehicle.
“Two electronic warfare stations and an ammunition depot were destroyed.”
It stated further:
“Units of the Center group of forces continued to advance deep into the enemy’s defenses.
“They defeated the formations of six mechanized, assault, airborne assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two marine brigades, two territorial defense brigades, three brigades of the National Guard and the Azov special forces brigade in the areas of the settlements of Shevchenko, Poltavka, Razino, Muravka, Udachnoye, Dimitrov, Yablonovka, Krasnoarmeysk, Rusin Yar, Ulyanovka, Petrovsky and Alekseevka of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“The enemy’s losses amounted to more than 510 servicemen, five armored personnel carriers, including three Sisu Pasi HA-185 made in Finland and two M113 made in the United States, an American-made HMMWV armored car, seven vehicles and three field artillery guns.
“The 36D6 airspace surveillance radar and the AN/TPQ-37 counter-battery radar station manufactured by the United States were destroyed.
“Units of the Vostok group of forces improved their tactical position.
“They defeated the manpower and equipment of two mechanized, airmobile, airborne assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and two territorial defense brigades in the areas of the settlements of Komar, Otradnoye, Karl Marx of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Komsomolskoye and Temirovka of the Zaporozhye region.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine lost up to 155 servicemen, two armored combat vehicles, six vehicles and five field artillery guns.
“An electronic warfare station and four ammunition depots were destroyed.”
More achievements claims
It also noted that “units of the Dnepr group of troops defeated the formations of two mechanized brigades, two coastal defense brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a territorial defense brigade in the areas of the settlements of Kamianske, Pavlovka of the Zaporozhye region, Beryslav, Antonovka, Tokarevka and Sadove of the Kherson region.
“The enemy lost over 85 servicemen, six vehicles, two 155-mm howitzers, including the M777 made in the United States and the TRF1 made in France, two electronic warfare stations and two ammunition depots.
“Operational-tactical aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, missile forces and artillery of groups of troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation damaged the infrastructure of a military airfield, an enterprise for the repair of military equipment, workshops for the production of attack unmanned aerial vehicles and the place of their launch, ammunition depots, as well as points of temporary deployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 149 districts.
“Air defense systems shot down seven US-made JDAM guided bombs and 100 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.”
In all, since the beginning of the war, the following have been destroyed:
▫️ 663 Aircraft
▫️ 283 Helicopter
▫️ 60 692 unmanned aerial vehicles,
▫️ 609 anti-aircraft missile systems,
▫️ 23 685 tanks and other armored combat vehicles,
▫️ 1 565 combat vehicles of multiple launch rocket systems,
▫️ 25 529 field artillery guns and mortars,
▫️ 36 288 units of special military vehicles.
With the reported bombing of Russia’s Nuclear Triad, fears are rife that Putin may retaliate with a nuclear bomb.
Ever since the war broke out in 2022, experts have warned that it could degenerate into a nuclear war.
With the latest development, the globe is tethering on the precipice of a global catastrophe if Putin chooses to retaliate with a nuke.
