FG declares public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha celebration

The Federal Government has officially announced Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays in Nigeria.

These dates are set aside to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration, one of Islam’s most revered festivals.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirms that the declaration was made by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a formal statement.

The announcement was issued on behalf of the Federal Government and was signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

In the statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm congratulations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe as they prepare to commemorate the significant religious event.

He highlighted the essence of Eid-ul-Adha, emphasizing values such as sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith.

These values, he noted, were exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him), whose devotion to God serves as a cornerstone of the Eid observance.

The minister encouraged Muslims to embody these virtues not just during the festive season but in their daily lives.

He also urged all Nigerians to take advantage of this spiritual season to offer prayers for national unity and prosperity.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated that this period presents a unique opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s collective responsibility toward peace and development.

He further stressed that the Eid celebration should be a time for all citizens, regardless of religious beliefs, to support the efforts of the current administration.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is built on a foundation of reforms aimed at national revival.

The minister maintained that these policies are already beginning to reposition the country for long-term growth and socioeconomic stability.

He appealed to Nigerians to support these initiatives by contributing positively to the rebuilding process of the nation.

“Let us join hands to restore the glory of Nigeria as a great nation,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo declared.
