In a heartwarming celebration of Children’s Day, 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah was appointed the One-Day Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank Plc on Monday, May 27, 2025.
This remarkable appointment formed part of a broader initiative by Wema Bank to mark its 80th anniversary while simultaneously promoting financial literacy and leadership skills among Nigerian children.
The initiative was executed through a social media challenge that invited children to showcase their creativity around financial education.
Chiderije Mbah emerged as the winner of the challenge after she submitted an animated short film focused on demystifying finance and making it fun and accessible to kids.
Her creative presentation impressed both the public and a panel of internal judges, earning her the rare opportunity to step into the role of the bank’s chief executive for a day.

The acting MD/CEO, Chiderije Mbah, had the opportunity to engage with senior executives, participate in strategy sessions, and deliver a motivational address to staff at the bank’s headquarters.
