Former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, has donated laptops and ₦6 million to a school in Chibok, Borno State.
The Government Secondary School, Chibok, gained attention in 2014 after Boko Haram abducted over 200 schoolgirls from there.
Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, announced his donation through a post on his verified X account on Wednesday.
Obi said he responded to a call from activist Aisha Yesufu about the school’s poor condition and lack of equipment.
Yesufu informed him that the school had no laboratory, electricity, or adequate computer systems for students.
She told him the school had only one desktop computer, despite having over 2,500 students enrolled.
She requested Obi to provide at least two more computers and solar lighting for the computer room.
Obi said he initially planned to visit the school personally but received security warnings that discouraged the trip.
Meeting with Chibok Leaders in Abuja
Instead of travelling, Obi met with Chibok community leaders in Abuja through arrangements made by Aisha Yesufu.
During the meeting, he presented them with 10 laptops and 3 printers to support the school’s computer programme.
He also handed them ₦6 million in cash, giving ₦2 million each for key school needs.
The funds will support the computer room, science laboratory, and construction of a handheld motorised borehole.
Obi said the gesture was not a donation but a sincere commitment to the education and development of young Nigerians.
He said he would do more to support the school and the Chibok community in the near future.
Obi Blasts Government Priorities
Obi criticised the government for neglecting basic educational needs while wasting resources on luxurious projects.
He condemned leaders who spend billions on conference centres, car parks, and expensive lodges, while schools lack books and pencils.
He called for a national rethinking of development priorities to focus on education, health, and poverty reduction.
Obi urged Nigerian leaders to stop neglecting young people who are the future of the country.
He said Nigeria cannot move forward unless it invests in quality education and functional infrastructure.
He called on citizens to demand accountability and purposeful governance from public officials.
Obi concluded by urging Nigerians to unite in rebuilding the nation through service and sincere sacrifice.
