After 20 years of being in charge, Alhaji Aliko Dangote will be stepping down as Chairman of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc.

His retirement will officially take effect on June 16, 2025, according to a company statement issued by secretary Temitope Hassan.

Dangote, who has led the company since 2005, is widely credited with expanding its market dominance and spearheading key initiatives, including major Backward Integration Projects in Adamawa, Taraba, and Nasarawa States to enhance local sugar production and reduce reliance on imports.

The company described the leadership change as part of its commitment to strong corporate governance and succession planning.

In his place, the Board has appointed Arnold Ekpe, an Independent Non-Executive Director, as the new Chairman, also effective June 16, 2025.
