Saudi Arabia warns Israel against targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities

Says attack may trigger broader instability in the Middle East

Saudi Arabia has issued a sharp warning to Israel, stating that any military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities would amount to a breach of international law and could ignite broader instability across the Middle East.

In a statement released on Friday, June 20, a senior Saudi foreign ministry official said Riyadh was “closely monitoring” escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

The official warned that an attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure would not only violate international norms but also pose “grave threats” to regional and global security.

“Any unilateral aggression against nuclear facilities would constitute a clear violation of international law, including the UN Charter and treaties protecting civilian infrastructure,” the statement read.

The warning comes amid rising fears that Israel may launch a pre-emptive strike on Iran’s nuclear program in the wake of deepening hostilities and Tehran’s alleged support for regional militias hostile to Israel.

Reports have emerged suggesting that Israeli military planners are weighing options to neutralize Iranian nuclear assets, particularly if diplomatic talks collapse and Iran resumes high-level uranium enrichment.

Saudi Arabia, traditionally cautious in its public positions on Israel-Iran tensions, appears to be taking a firmer stance as the prospect of direct conflict grows.

The kingdom’s statement emphasized the need for restraint and called on the international community to intervene diplomatically to avoid what it described as a “catastrophic confrontation.”

Riyadh also reminded both nations of their obligations under international treaties, including the 1970 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), of which Iran is a signatory.

The Israeli government has yet to officially respond to Saudi Arabia’s warning.

This development marks one of the strongest public signals yet from Saudi Arabia that it would oppose a unilateral Israeli strike on Iran, especially if such action threatens to destabilize the Gulf or target nuclear infrastructure with civilian implications.

With regional powers increasingly on edge, observers say Saudi Arabia’s message could add pressure on Israel to pursue diplomatic options and may influence broader international consensus on the legality and consequences of striking Iran’s nuclear program.
