Flooding: NEMA issues quit notice to four communities in Imo

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a notice to four communities in Imo State to relocate to safer sites due to possible flooding.

This notice is part of NEMA’s efforts to mitigate the impact of anticipated flooding in the state.

The four communities in Imo State that have been advised to relocate are: Eziorsu, Afiaofu, Orsuobodo and Ossemotto in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state.

NEMA’s decision to advise these communities to relocate is based on the prediction that they are at high risk of flooding.

The agency’s analysis of weather patterns, soil conditions, and other factors has indicated that these communities are likely to be affected by flooding in the coming weeks or months.

Flooding can have devastating consequences for communities, including: Loss of life and property, Displacement of people, Damage to infrastructure and livelihoods and Increased risk of waterborne diseases.

NEMA’s role in issuing this notice is to ensure the safety and well-being of the people in these communities.

The agency is working closely with the Imo State government and other stakeholders to provide support and assistance to those who will be relocated.

The relocation process will involve the following steps: Identification of safe relocation sites, Provision of temporary shelter and basic amenities, Assistance with relocation and resettlement and Provision of support and services to affected communities.

The Imo State government has pledged to provide support and assistance to the affected communities.

This will include provision of alternative housing, food, and other essential services.

The communities affected by the relocation notice have been advised to take the necessary precautions and cooperate with NEMA and other stakeholders.

Community leaders have been working closely with NEMA to ensure a smooth relocation process.
