Putin Defies Trump’s Call for Peace, Vows to Continue Ukraine War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing Russia’s military objectives in Ukraine despite direct appeals from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the declaration came following a phone conversation between the two leaders earlier this week, as disclosed by Fox News on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

The Kremlin’s official summary of the call made it clear that Putin remains resolute in continuing the nearly three-year-old conflict, insisting that Russia’s “strategic goals” must be achieved.

Senior Russian diplomat Yuri Ushakov confirmed that Putin expressed a willingness for diplomatic solutions but stood firm on the broader war aims.

“President Putin noted that Russia continues to favour a political and negotiated resolution to the conflict,” Ushakov stated.

He added, “At the same time, our president made it clear that Russia will not abandon the goals it has set, namely, to eliminate the root causes of the current confrontation.”

Although not detailed during the call, Putin has repeatedly framed NATO expansion and Western military assistance to Ukraine as existential threats to Russia.

The Kremlin has also openly advocated for regime change in Kyiv, targeting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s administration as part of its stated goals.

The White House has not released any official statement regarding the call or Trump’s position on Putin’s intransigence.

Analysts suggest Trump’s renewed call for ending the war aligns with his previous campaign rhetoric urging a swift resolution to U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts.

The conversation between the two leaders comes amid growing global unease over Washington’s decision to temporarily suspend some military aid to Ukraine.

The Biden-Trump transition and military stockpile concerns were cited as reasons for the pause, with the affected weapons already positioned in Poland.

National security experts have warned that any delay in aid delivery could embolden Russia and further tilt the balance of the war.

Though the Kremlin’s readout did not mention the paused U.S. military support, the topic is believed to have featured indirectly in the dialogue.

Beyond Ukraine, both leaders reportedly discussed escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly recent U.S. and Israeli actions targeting Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Putin reportedly emphasized the need for global disputes, including those in the Middle East, to be resolved through diplomacy rather than military intervention.

“The president reiterated that the path to lasting peace lies in dialogue, not in force,” the Kremlin noted.

Geopolitical analysts say the Kremlin’s tough posture reflects Moscow’s assessment that waning Western unity and rising political divisions in the U.S. present an opportunity to advance its objectives.

Meanwhile, the continued silence from the White House has fueled speculation over Trump’s actual influence in shaping future American policy on the war.

Inside Washington, opinion remains divided. Some believe Trump’s engagement with Putin might open the door for negotiations, while others fear it legitimizes Russian aggression.

The war in Ukraine, which began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022, has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced millions.

Despite international sanctions and condemnation, Russia continues to control large swathes of Ukrainian territory, with no signs of retreat.

Ukraine’s leadership has repeatedly asserted that any ceasefire must involve a full withdrawal of Russian forces and restoration of territorial sovereignty.

However, with the West showing signs of fatigue, some fear that Ukraine may soon face intensified pressure to accept a negotiated settlement on unfavorable terms.

Putin’s latest rebuff of diplomatic overtures, even from Trump, signals a hardening of Russia’s war strategy and complicates efforts to bring the conflict to an end.

DDM will continue to monitor the evolving situation and its global implications as the war drags on with no clear resolution in sight.
