Prince Onah Laments Nigeria’s Leadership Crisis, Calls for Youth Awakening

Enugu, Nigeria – Prince Ikemefuna Onah, head of the media team for Hon. IG Amaechi Okoro, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate for Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s persistent leadership failures.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Onah took to social media to express his frustration with Nigeria’s political direction, comparing it unfavourably with Western democracies such as the United States.

In a thought-provoking post that resonated with many young Nigerians, Prince Onah questioned how countries like the U.S. continue to produce visionary and effective leaders while Nigeria struggles to break free from cycles of underdevelopment and misgovernance.

“I wonder how the United States and other Western nations were just so fortunate to have remarkable leadership,” he wrote, reflecting on the glaring gap between functional democracies and Nigeria’s governance realities.

He lamented that Nigeria has long been denied the kind of transformative leadership that could unlock the nation’s vast potential, especially for the youth.

Onah emphasized that young Nigerians, who make up the majority of the population, are desperate for genuine change and accountable governance. However, each electoral cycle ends in disappointment as the same political patterns repeat themselves.

“With each election cycle, our hopes are rekindled for a better tomorrow, only to be dashed by the same familiar patterns of division and poor decision-making.”

He warned that Nigeria’s deep divisions, along ethnic, religious, and social lines, continue to hinder national progress and lead to the repeated election of leaders who fail to serve the people’s interest.

“Divided along ethnic, religious, and social lines, we consistently choose the very leaders who embody the greatest evil of all,” he noted grimly.

Nigeria, despite its position as Africa’s largest democracy and richest economy, remains plagued by weak institutions, high unemployment, worsening insecurity, and widespread corruption.

Political analysts say Onah’s remarks echo a growing sentiment among Nigeria’s youth, who have become increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with the political class.

With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, many believe that voices like Prince Onah’s may help galvanize a new movement for political accountability, voter education, and youth participation.

Hon. IG Amaechi Okoro, whom Onah represents, is among a new wave of political figures in the ADC pushing for reforms and grassroots mobilization.

As Nigeria braces for another electoral cycle, the demand for competent, inclusive, and principled leadership appears to be gaining traction, particularly among younger demographics eager to reclaim their future.

DDM will continue to monitor political developments as they unfold across constituencies and online platforms.
