The management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Owerri, Imo State, has restricted religious activities on campus due to security concerns.

According to a memo signed by Deputy Registrar Mrs. Mary N. Unegbu on behalf of the Registrar, the back gate of the school will be locked at 6:00 PM on Monday, July 7, 2025.

As a result, all church activities are required to end by 5:45 PM to allow students and worshipers to exit the campus safely before the gate closes ¹.

Movement and religious activities are limited at the back gate area of the campus on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Security patrols will be intensified across the campus to maintain law and order.

Students are requested to comply fully with the directive, and the management appreciates their understanding and cooperation.

The restriction is attributed to security purposes, with the management aiming to prevent potential security breaches by limiting movement and religious activities.

This decision comes as part of the institution’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of its students and staff.

In the past, Federal Polytechnic Nekede has implemented security measures, such as a 7:00 PM curfew, in response to security challenges.

This suggests that the institution is proactive in addressing security concerns and taking steps to maintain a safe environment for its community.

The restriction may affect students who participate in religious activities on campus, particularly those that typically run beyond 5:45 PM.

However, the management’s assurance of intensified security patrols aims to provide a safe environment for students to go about their activities.

This was contained in a memo signed by the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Mary N. Unegbu on behalf of the Registrar.

She said that the measures were taken because of security purposes and revealed that the back gate will be locked at 6pm on Monday.

She further advised all religious activities in the campus on Monday to end before 5:45 to enable students to exit the school premises before 6pm as security personnels will be deployed on the said day to maintain law and order in the campus.

She said: “This is to inform the Polytechnic Community, particularly students and all churches operating within the campus that the back gate will be locked at 6:00pm on Monday, 7th July, 2025 for security purposes.

“Consequently, all church activities are required to end before 5:45pm on that day to allow students and other worshipers to exit the campus in an orderly and timely manner before 6:00pm.

“Please, be informed that security patrols would be intensified across the campus throughout that evening to ensure maintenance of law and order.

“All students are hereby requested to comply fully with this directive.

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this regard.
