The lawmaker representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Ireti Kingibe, has resigned from the Labour Party (LP).

She also announced her decision to join the African Democratic Party (ADC), which is now a coalition of opposition leaders preparing to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027 general elections.

While speaking with newsmen in Abuja shortly after a meeting, the lawmaker declared her loyalty to ADC.

“As a senator, I am fully committed to ADC. However, as the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, I don’t expect you to just hand me a card,” she said.

Senator Kingibe noted that, although she is yet to collect her ADC membership card, but she remains firmly dedicated to the coalition’s plans for the future.

Meanwhile, the 37 ADC chairmen from different states and the FCT also reiterated their support for the David Mark-led leadership of the party as preparations for the next elections gathers momentum.

The ADC coalition was recently formed by opposition parties and political stakeholders who came together to strengthen their chances in the 2027 elections.

The party is currently being managed by an interim leadership led by former Senate President David Mark and other key figures who have been tasked with uniting members, building structures nationwide and coordinating activities until a substantive leadership is elected.
