JUST IN: Sexual Adventure Ends Kogi Lecturer’s Life…Police

A somber mood has gripped Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, following the sudden death of a senior lecturer, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, under controversial circumstances.
The 47-year-old academic reportedly died during a suspected sexual encounter with a female undergraduate student at a local hotel on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at a hotel in Anyigba and was reported by the hotel manager, Moses Friday, who said the lecturer had collapsed shortly after being with the student.
The student, identified as 22-year-old Gloria Samuel, a 200-level undergraduate of the Department of Social Studies Education at PAAU, allegedly rushed to the hotel reception in distress to seek help when the lecturer became unresponsive.
The police were immediately notified, and Ibikunle was transported to a nearby hospital, where a doctor officially confirmed him dead.
Police Public Relations Officer for Kogi State, SP William Aya, described the incident as “unfortunate.”
He also revealed that a full autopsy had already been conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Results are being awaited.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the authorities say appropriate actions will follow based on the findings.
The student involved has been taken into custody for questioning.
Initially held at the local police division in Anyigba, she has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja for further investigation.

Dr. Olabode Abimbola, Kogi State University Lecturer
While official details remain under review, a student who spoke on condition of anonymity to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) claimed the lecturer and the student were engaged in sexual activity when he suddenly collapsed.
Though this claim has not been confirmed by law enforcement, it has circulated widely among the student body and across social media platforms, fueling public speculation.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Dr. Ibikunle may have consumed multiple energy drinks prior to the incident.
Some believe the combination of physical exertion and possible overstimulation could have contributed to the fatal collapse.
However, medical authorities and investigators have urged the public to await the autopsy results before drawing conclusions.
Dr. Ibikunle was a married man with children and was regarded as a seasoned academic in the university’s Faculty of Education.
His death has sparked mixed reactions, shock, sadness, and debate, within the university community and beyond.
While some students and colleagues have expressed grief over the loss of a respected lecturer, others are grappling with the moral and ethical implications of the unfolding narrative.
The university management has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
However, internal sources suggest that an administrative inquiry may be initiated in parallel with the police investigation.
This comes especially as the incident raises questions about faculty-student relationships and professional boundaries within the academic environment.
This case has once again brought to the fore the urgent need to address inappropriate power dynamics and misconduct within Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
Over the years, there have been recurring concerns over cases of exploitation, abuse, and unprofessional conduct between some lecturers and their students.
Meanwhile, legal experts note that the ongoing police investigation will be crucial in determining whether any criminal charges will be filed against the student or any third parties.
According to them, this depends on the findings of the autopsy and forensic analysis.
For now, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks tied to personal indiscretions and the importance of upholding ethical standards, particularly in professional and academic spaces.
As the investigation unfolds, the PAAU community and the Nigerian public at large await clarity on what truly led to the tragic demise of Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle.
