Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday, July 19, 2025, solidified his legacy as one of boxing’s elite by decisively defeating Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to reclaim his status as a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.

The Ukrainian showcased his technical brilliance before a roaring crowd of 90,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium, effectively ending Dubois’ ambitions to become the first British boxer to unify all four major heavyweight belts in the modern era.

The 38-year-old Usyk delivered a dominant performance, flooring Dubois twice during the fifth round.

The London-born contender managed to stand up after the initial knockdown but was unable to beat the referee’s count following the second.

This victory marked Usyk’s 24th professional win, maintaining his undefeated record after previously stopping Dubois in a 2023 bout.

Reflecting on the fight in a post-match interview with DAZN, Usyk expressed a mixture of resolve and gratitude.

“I’m sorry [Dubois], it’s sport.

“My people wanted this win,” he remarked.

He also hinted at taking a break moving forward, saying, “Nothing is next.

“It’s enough. Next, I want to rest.

“My family, my wife, my children, I want to rest now.

“Two or three months, I want to just rest.”

Dubois, who had defeated former champion Anthony Joshua in September to defend his IBF heavyweight title, experienced just his third loss in 25 fights as a pro.

Notably, all his defeats have ended prematurely via stoppage.

Despite the setback, Dubois maintained a respectful tone: “I have to commend him on the performance, I gave everything I had.

“Take no credit away from that man, I’ll be back,” he told DAZN.

He added, “I was just fighting, trying to pick up round by round. It is what it is.”

By overcoming Dubois, Usyk regained the IBF heavyweight title, which had been stripped from him weeks after his 2023 unification triumph.

Along with the IBF belt, he also retained his WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC championship titles, reestablishing his dominance in the heavyweight division.

The fight night attracted significant figures from the boxing world, including legends such as Roy Jones Jr. and Frank Bruno, who were present ringside to witness the historic contest.

Additionally, WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker observed intently, awaiting an opportunity for a title shot against Usyk.

Throughout the bout, the atmosphere was charged, with both fighters receiving boisterous support.

Usyk, long viewed as having close ties to the UK, was warmly embraced by the crowd, which also energized Dubois as he made his entrance.

From the opening bell, the contest was lively and intense. Dubois attempted to press the action, utilizing his jab to disrupt Usyk’s rhythm.

Still, Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion and 2012 Olympic gold medalist, countered expertly, demonstrating superior footwork and defensive skill.

He deftly slipped beneath Dubois’ jab and punished his opponent’s advances with precise counters.

In the first two rounds, the southpaw Usyk consistently connected with sharp left-hand counters that visibly unsettled Dubois. Between rounds,

Dubois sought advice from his father, Stan, but his difficulty in finding Usyk undermined his strategy.

The pivotal moment came in the fifth round when Usyk unleashed a series of combinations, culminating in a sharp left hook that sent Dubois crashing to the canvas. Despite immense heart, Dubois managed to stand up and continue briefly.

However, Usyk quickly capitalized on his advantage, landing another powerful left hook that sent Dubois to the floor again.

Recognizing his fighter’s peril, Dubois’ corner wisely threw in the towel as the referee neared the count of nine, bringing the bout to a definitive close.

Usyk’s victory not only cements his place among boxing’s heavyweight greats but also highlights his resilience and technical mastery against a younger, formidable opponent.

As he contemplates a planned rest period, fans and analysts alike eagerly anticipate his next steps in what has already been a remarkable career.

In summary, Oleksandr Usyk’s emphatic stoppage of Daniel Dubois at Wembley stands as a testament to his skill, experience, and champion’s heart, qualities that continue to define his storied tenure across two weight classes.
