A woman, Chidinma Arinze, has been arrested for allegedly killing her two children, 4-year-old Esther and 3-month-old Chibusoma, in Enugu State, Nigeria.

The children’s bodies were found with marks of violence, suspected to have been inflicted with a sharp object, at the family’s residence in Trans Ekulu on July 21, 2025.

The police were alerted, and officers were dispatched to the scene. The suspect, Chidinma Arinze, was arrested without resistance.

The case is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

While the police have not disclosed a motive, community members speculate that the suspect may have been experiencing a postpartum mental health crisis.

The Trans Ekulu community is in shock and mourning, with residents describing the incident as devastating and unprecedented in the area.

The Enugu State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be pursued with thoroughness and sensitivity, including psychological evaluation of the suspect.
