Again, SDP Disowns El-Rufai, Labels Him an Impostor

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has again distanced itself from former governor Nasir El-Rufai.

This declaration came during a press briefing by the party’s North West zonal secretary, Alhaji Idris Inuwa, in Kaduna on Friday.

According to Inuwa, El-Rufai falsely presented himself as a representative of the SDP during a recent political gathering in Kaduna.

He accused El-Rufai of attempting to deceive the public by claiming a leadership role in a party he does not belong to.

“It is now public knowledge,” Inuwa stated, “that El-Rufai and a group of meddlesome politicians attended a meeting where he brazenly spoke on behalf of the SDP.”

Inuwa said the former governor had no right to speak for the party, either officially or informally.

“Neither El-Rufai nor his associates have ever been members of the SDP,” Inuwa declared. “They hold no position within our ranks.”

He also noted that El-Rufai had recently appeared at policy meetings and dialogues, falsely representing himself as an SDP voice.

The party insists these actions were unauthorized and carried out without the national leadership’s consent.

“Our Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, and National Secretary, Chief Olu Agunloye, were never aware of these moves,” he stressed.

The party urged the public to ignore any political statement made by El-Rufai in the name of the SDP.

Inuwa explained that El-Rufai had never been appointed, nominated, or mandated to speak for the party in any capacity.

He added, “The SDP’s official records show no trace of El-Rufai’s membership. He has never attended any official party programs.”

The party declared all public statements made by El-Rufai under its name as “null and void.”

SDP leaders emphasized that only authorized officials can speak for the party, not political actors with no formal links.
