Trump revives feud with London Mayor, calls him ‘nasty person

(DDM) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed his verbal attacks on the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, calling him a “nasty person” and accusing him of failed leadership.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Trump made the remarks during a press briefing at his Turnberry golf resort in South Ayrshire, Scotland, on Monday, July 28, 2025, as part of a four-day private visit to the United Kingdom.

The outburst reignites a long-running feud between Trump and Khan that dates back to Trump’s first term in office.

Trump criticised the mayor’s handling of London’s affairs and reiterated his dislike, stating flatly, “I’m not a fan of your mayor… a nasty person.”

He claimed Khan had performed poorly in office and suggested that his leadership had made London less safe and less attractive.

The former president made it clear that despite his upcoming state visit to the UK in September, he has no intention of engaging with Mayor Khan during his stay in the capital.

Asked whether he would spend time in London, Trump replied, “I think he’s done a terrible job… a nasty person.”

Trump is scheduled to return to the UK from September 17 to 19, following an invitation from King Charles III.

He will be accompanied by his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, and is expected to be hosted at Windsor Castle.

During the press briefing, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who was seated beside Trump, offered only a brief response, saying, “He’s a friend of mine, actually,” referring to Khan.

A spokesperson for Mayor Khan responded diplomatically to Trump’s renewed attacks.

The representative said the mayor remained focused on promoting London’s diversity and global reputation, adding that Trump’s visit itself underscores the city’s continued relevance on the international stage.

They further noted that despite the criticisms, many American citizens have sought British residency or citizenship during Trump’s administration, with London remaining a top destination.

Trump’s disdain for Khan stretches back several years, with their animosity gaining public attention in 2017 after the London Bridge terrorist attack, during which Trump criticised Khan’s response.

In 2019, Trump labeled Khan a “stone-cold loser,” intensifying the already bitter relationship between the two leaders.

He also once challenged Khan to an IQ test, accusing the mayor of incompetence and political grandstanding.

The former president’s latest comments come amid renewed speculation about his political ambitions ahead of the 2028 U.S. election cycle.

While his visit to Scotland is considered personal, Trump has incorporated visits to his golf courses in Menie and Turnberry into his itinerary.

Political analysts view Trump’s consistent attacks on Khan as both personal and strategic, aimed at rallying his conservative base in the U.S. and globally.

So far, Downing Street has not issued an official statement regarding Trump’s controversial remarks.
