Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria, has emphasized that the emerging opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is focused on rescuing Nigeria’s democracy from the ruling party’s authoritarian tendencies and electoral manipulation.

He stated this in his social media handle on July 29th 2025.

According to Atiku, the coalition is not centered on individual political figures like himself, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, or Nasir El-Rufai, but rather on saving the country’s democracy.

Atiku expressed concerns about the ruling party’s actions, which he believes are undermining the country’s democratic institutions and processes.

He cited the manipulation of the electoral process, the erosion of citizens’ rights, and the failure to address the country’s pressing challenges as major concerns.

Atiku sees the opposition coalition as a necessary force to hold the ruling party accountable and ensure that the country’s democracy is preserved.

He believes that the coalition can provide a platform for Nigerians to express their grievances and demand better governance.

Atiku highlighted several key issues facing Nigeria, including Economic challenges.

The country’s economy is facing significant challenges, including high inflation, unemployment, and poverty.

Nigeria is grappling with various security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

The country’s democratic institutions and processes are under threat from the ruling party’s authoritarian tendencies.

Atiku called on Nigerians to support the opposition coalition and work together to build a better country.

He emphasized the need for citizens to be vigilant and demand accountability from their leaders.

Atiku’s statement has sparked reactions from various quarters, with some praising his commitment to democracy and others criticizing his motives.
