Nigeria Lectures Israel on War at UN Amid Insecurity Crisis

Nigeria has once again declared its firm support for a two-state solution to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict.

This position was stated on Wednesday, July 30, at the United Nations High-Level Conference on the Two-State Solution held in New York.

Speaking on behalf of Nigeria, Syndoph Endoni, the chargé d’affaires of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN, delivered the country’s message.

He urged all parties to return to the negotiating table and end decades of bloodshed.

According to Endoni, Nigeria has made previous attempts to mediate peace at the highest levels.

The country had visited both Israel and Palestine in a bid to ease tensions. Now, Nigeria is pushing for a stronger follow-up to these diplomatic efforts.

Importantly, Nigeria called for Palestine to be granted full membership at the United Nations.

The country stressed that Palestine deserves all rights and privileges like any sovereign state.

Nigeria urged the global community to make this conference a turning point. It called for urgent and lasting political efforts to achieve peace. It insisted that only a two-state framework with secure, recognized pre-1967 borders can ensure safety for both peoples.

Furthermore, Nigeria condemned the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza and other occupied territories.

The country said there is no excuse for the level of violence and loss of life. It argued that Palestinians must gain independence as a path to peace.

Endoni also called on the UN Security Council to act decisively.

He said the Council must guarantee Palestinians their right to self-determination. That includes their independence and sovereignty within pre-1967 borders.

Nigeria applauded the efforts of Saudi Arabia and France in convening the conference. It also thanked Egypt and Qatar for their push toward a lasting ceasefire.

Moreover, it backed the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza’s early recovery and development.

Finally, Nigeria reminded Israel of its legal obligations under international law. The country urged Israel to end its occupation and allow the Palestinian people to shape their future.
