Killer of Kogi photojournalist commits suicide

The body of photojournalist Ayobami Aiyepeku has been recovered in a bush in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Aiyepeku’s friend and suspected killer, Jacob Adebayo Pelumi, a Nigerian Correctional Services officer, is believed to have killed him on July 22 around 8:30pm in an office near the Government House.

Pelumi allegedly put Aiyepeku’s body in a deep freezer and later dumped it in the bush.

He reportedly drank insecticide and died after locking himself in a hotel room while being pursued by the police.

The police recovered Aiyepeku’s body on Sunday evening after residents reported a strong odor coming from the bush.

The police are now seeking information to unravel the mystery behind Aiyepeku’s death.

The police have recovered the Toyota Hilux van used to convey Aiyepeku’s body and the deep freezer where he was stored.

Aiyepeku’s father, Chief James Aiyepeku, described his son as kind and gentle, and called on the police to help the family understand what happened before his son’s life was cut short.

The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
