Japan Donates N3.6bn Road Equipment to Nigeria

Japan government has donated road equipment worth N3.6 billion to Nigeria. The donation aims to support the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in rehabilitating and maintaining the country’s road network.

Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, on Friday, August 1, 2025, officially received the equipment.

According to him, this donation will revolutionize road maintenance across Nigeria.

Moreover, it will strengthen the capacity of engineers and technicians nationwide.

Although Nigeria has a vast road network, poor maintenance has slowed development.

However, Goronyo believes the new equipment will speed up repairs and improve outcomes.

In fact, he described the machinery as a “game changer” for national infrastructure.

Furthermore, the minister noted that roads play a critical role in commerce, agriculture, and national integration.

For this reason, better maintenance remains a priority. He also called on FERMA’s leadership to put the donated equipment to optimal use.

In a statement by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director of Press at the Ministry of Works, the minister emphasized accountability.

Therefore, he urged the FERMA team to treat the machines as a strategic national asset.

The commissioning event on August 1, 2025, attracted several key stakeholders. Among those present were:

During the ceremony, Goronyo stated that the donation will push Nigeria closer to safe and reliable travel.

He added that it shows Japan’s commitment to Nigeria’s growth.

In addition, he extended warm appreciation to Japan on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the people of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the minister affirmed that effective deployment of the tools will improve lives and help restore critical infrastructure.

Overall, the Japanese government’s donation highlights international cooperation and shared development goals.

Consequently, Nigeria now has a better chance to upgrade its roads and support national unity.
