Trump Hits Six Arab Nations With Harsh Tariffs

US President Donald Trump has introduced sweeping tariffs on six Arab nations, sparking global economic concerns and political backlash.

He announced the decision late last week, declaring it part of his aggressive plan to “rebalance” America’s trade deals.

Syria faces the steepest tariff at 41 percent, followed by Iraq with 35 percent. Libya and Algeria each receive a 30 percent rate, while Tunisia will pay 25 percent. Jordan, though least affected, still faces a 15 percent import levy.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, claiming, “Tariffs are making America GREAT & RICH Again.”

He also told NBC News that the rollout was “going very well” and confirmed the tariffs would stay.

However, these Arab nations aren’t the only ones affected.

Trump’s executive order also targets Switzerland with a 39 percent duty. Brazil faces 50 percent, while South Africa gets 30 percent.

Additionally, Taiwan will pay 20 percent, and Turkiye 15 percent.

For all other countries not named, a 10 percent default tariff will apply. The new rates take effect on August 7.

The White House says this move promotes “reciprocity and fairness” in global trade.

Trump insists the tariffs will protect US manufacturers and restore lost jobs.

According to him, national security and economic strength go hand in hand.

Yet, market analysts aren’t buying the optimism. Global financial markets reacted sharply.

Experts warn the tariffs could disrupt already fragile supply chains.

Inflationary pressure may rise as costs of goods soar, particularly in developing economies.

Middle Eastern countries are likely to suffer most.

Many of these nations already struggle with high unemployment and weak economic growth. These new trade barriers may worsen those challenges.

Despite the criticism, Trump remains firm. He believes America has long suffered from unfair trade practices. Now, he says, it’s time for others to “pay their fair share.”

Whether this bold strategy will bring economic wins or global backlash remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Trump has once again stirred the global stage.
