(DDM) – The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed his deep condolences to the people of Ghana following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several public officials.
The former Anambra State governor conveyed his sympathy through a message shared on his official X handle on Wednesday.
Obi said the news of the helicopter crash, which led to the death of Honourable Minister Edward Boamah, Honourable Minister Ibrahim Mohammed, and other government officials, was devastating.
He extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of his family and the Obidient movement to former Ghanaian President John Mahama and the entire nation.
“This is a painful moment not just for Ghana but for all of us across the region who stand in solidarity with you,” Obi stated.
He expressed particular concern for the families of the deceased, offering them comfort and prayers during what he described as a dark moment.
“To the families of the bereaved, the people of Ghana, and the members of the Armed Forces, please accept my deepest sympathy and solidarity,” he wrote.
Peter Obi also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed officials and asked for divine comfort upon the grieving nation.
“May God comfort the families and the entire nation in this time of sorrow, and may the departed rest in perfect peace, Amen,” he added.
DDM gathered that the helicopter accident, which occurred earlier in the day, has plunged Ghana into mourning.
Initial reports suggest that the crash involved a military aircraft on an official duty, with high-ranking government officials on board.
The Ghanaian Armed Forces have since confirmed the incident and promised a full investigation.
Ghanaians have continued to express shock and sadness across social media platforms, while flags fly at half-mast in many parts of the country.
Tributes have also poured in from other African leaders, with many acknowledging the contributions of the deceased to Ghana’s development and regional diplomacy.
Peter Obi’s message aligns with a broader wave of regional solidarity, with Nigerians and other West African citizens expressing grief and support for their Ghanaian neighbors.
