Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel key members accused of working against the party during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Lamido specifically named the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; and former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, among others.

He accused them of openly undermining the PDP to the advantage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“All those erring members — the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus, and others — who openly campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections, and who say they will work for the APC in 2027, should be sacked from the party,” Lamido declared.

The PDP chieftain expressed frustration over what he called a culture of impunity within the party.

He stressed that the National Working Committee (NWC) must enforce strict disciplinary measures to restore order.

“From way back after the primaries of 2022 leading to the elections of 2023, some people, because of their personal ambitions, felt aggrieved about what transpired at the party’s convention.

They turned against the party and fought it. This impunity of denouncing the party while still enjoying its membership has gone on for too long,” Lamido said.

He added that the party’s constitution provides clear sanctions for breaches of its code of conduct.

Yet, for over 18 months, the leadership had failed to act decisively.

“In the constitution, if you breach the party’s code, you are sanctioned. But somehow, the executives ignored these breaches.

Now, the leadership must wake up to its responsibilities,” Lamido said.

The former governor also revealed he would boycott meetings of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) until those who worked against the PDP were disciplined.

On the same day, the PDP’s National Working Committee issued a public warning to members endorsing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NWC described such actions as “anti-party” and contrary to the PDP’s constitution.

It warned that those who fail to retract their statements or actions risk stiffer sanctions.

According to the party, loyalty and internal discipline are essential to rebuilding the PDP’s strength before the next general election.

Lamido’s comments have intensified the debate over internal discipline in Nigeria’s main opposition party, highlighting the deep divisions that persist after its 2023 electoral loss.
